Ghastlycrumb, meets Dr. Who

Happy Road to Halloween, everyone!  For some of us, it is the greatest time of year. Costumes, candy and scares.  What’s not to like? In keeping with the spirit of the season, here’s a story about a book I stumbled upon years ago  and someone’s very Whovian take on such a work.

That Ghastlycrumb Tinies by Edward Gorey is an alphabet book for…adults really.  The art work and gallows humour reminds me of Tim Burton and Masterpiece Theater all blended into one.  Every letter is emphasized through simple black and white art work, where each child on the page meets with an untimely demise.  It’s pretty grim, now that I think about it.  Maybe not the best primer for toddlers and the alphabet.

Here’s a sample from the book:edward-gorey-gashlycrumb-tinies-collage

Thanks to this book, I now know what ennui means…oh…that’s sad…anyway… Yesterday, I came across this; someone’s equally creative and artistic take on the Tinies, but Dr. Who style. From Adric to the Zygons, death comes to Dr. Who in a silly sort of way…Oh Adric, still gets me in the feels…Until next time.  Enjoy!
