Eliza Dushku Enlists in “The Black Company”

Look, Geeks. Sooner or later, there’s gonna be a “Game of Thrones”-shaped hole in the TV schedule and creators are hustling to position themselves as the next can’t-miss fantasy drama. “Kingkiller Chronicle” is in development, Robert Jordan’s “Wheel of Time” is moving forward…and now the field is joined by “The Black Company” – Glen Cook’s dark fantasy/ military epic following an elite mercenary group in a world rich with intrigue and violence. Whedon-verse alum Eliza Dushku (“Buffy”, “Angel”, “Dollhouse”, and CBS’s “Bull”) will star in the pivotal role of the The Lady – a dark sorceress who joins the the Black Company. Five by five, says I.

Deadline.com reports that IM Global Television is developing the series with Dushku’s Boston Diva Productions and David Goyer’s Phantom Four meaning that this show is a team-up between Faith and Batman in an evil Middle Earth. Can’t miss, right?

“The Black Company” novels are renowned by fantasy fans for their down-to-earth portrayal of the mercenaries in the Company and white-knuckled tactical action. The soldiers provide a relatable voice to fantastic events which puts a gritty “Band-of-Brothers” spin on the heroic journey/gather-the-party story-line. Softcover omnibus editions are available from Tor Publishing with the most recent being published in 2010.

How about it, Geeks? Who’s down for “The Black Company”?
